The art of silence is as great as that of speech.

German proverb

Everything you do from now on will be in writing.

No one will speak until the end of the class period.

Read the following instructions. If you don’t understand something, write your question on a piece of paper, and hand it to me. I will respond in writing.

The object of this assignment is to get to know some classmates better and to write a paper that reflects their similarities and differences.

STEPS:

A. PREWRITE

1.Take a sheet of paper for each student in your group, excluding yourself. Create four or five tantalizing questions on each sheet to be answered by the person receiving that sheet.

2. When you have completed the questionnaires, give one to each person in your group.

3. When the questionnaires are returned, read the answers to your questions. Look for patterns of similarities and differences among the students in your group.

B. WRITE

1. Begin by drafting an introductory paragraph about the people in your group in general.

(5 pts.)

2. Now describe each person in a separate paragraph. Do not begin the paragraph with Leigh Arturo is … or Leigh Arturo likes… instead, begin with a phrase describing her -personality, or favorite magazine, or preferred amusement park ride. (2 pts. each paragraph)

 3. After you have described each person in a paragraph, close with a paragraph that reflects what you learned about this group of people. (5 pts.)

 4. Create a catchy title, and rewrite, then proofread your paper. It is due tomorrow.

(5 pts.)

Enjoy the process!
